Dutch citizenship

‘’If you obtain the Dutch nationality, you can reside in the Netherlands
unlimitedly, and you have the same rights and duties as a Dutch person.’’

Dutch citizenship

Do you want to become a Dutch citizen and receive the Dutch nationality? There are two ways in which this might be possible, namely via the option procedure or via the naturalisation procedure.

The fastest way is via the option procedure. In addition, the option procedure is less expensive than the naturalisation procedure and you are not obliged to pass the civic integration examinations. In case of the option procedure you also do not have to renounce your own nationality. In case of the naturalisation this is in principle the case, but there are some exceptions to this rule.

Option procedure

The option procedure at the municipality is a fast and relatively simple way to become a Dutch citizen. However, starting the option procedure is not possible in every situation. Therefore, the first question always is: is the option procedure a possibility in your specific situation?

After it has been determined that it is possible to follow the option procedure in your situation, we need to research if you also meet all the other conditions for option. If this is the case, we will start the option procedure for you at the municipality in which you reside.

People often find it quite difficult to judge whether or not it is possible to start an option procedure. One of our specialised lawyers can carry out this assessment for you and guide you through the entire application procedure from beginning to end. Precision and care are essential for a successful application. Therefore, our team would gladly offer you the assistance you need.

Naturalisation procedure

In case the option procedure is not possible in your situation, maybe the naturalisation procedure is an option. If you wish to become a Dutch citizen via naturalisation, we will submit an application for you at the municipality in which you reside.

Before we start preparing a naturalisation application, we will research if you fulfil all the conditions for naturalisation.  One of the conditions for a successful application is that for example that you need to have passed the civic integration examinations. In some cases, it is possible to receive an exemption for integration. We of course always check if you qualify for such an exemption. If this is not the case, you will first need to obtain the civic integration diploma before we can start a naturalisation application for you.
